LASERAID, POLHEMUS, AND DIGITAL ARTFORMS
DEBUT Spacegrips® Wireless 3D INTERACTION AT I/ITSEC 2006

SpaceGrips® Spacegrips® Wireless Enable New Levels of Interaction

Orlando, FL, December 4, 2006 – LaserAid announces the debut of its revolutionary new 3D interactive devices, SpaceGrips® Wireless, at the 2006 Interservice/Industry Training Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando.  SpaceGrips are full 6 Degree-of-Freedom (6DOF) button devices that allow users to reach directly into space to visualize, manipulate, and shape the environment.  Based on the industry-proven Polhemus Latus Spacegrips® Wireless Tracking System, SpaceGrips are the first button controller to offer integrated cordless tracking.

Working in close collaboration with Digital Artforms, Inc, LaserAid has designed SpaceGrips to support their powerful and elegant two-handed interaction paradigm, THI (Two-Handed Interface).  The capabilties of this interface will be demonstrated at I/ITSEC as the centerpiece of C2THI, an immersive Command and Control environment being built for the US Army CERDEC in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey to support all aspects of mission planning, battle management, and after action review (AAR).

“True Spacegrips® Wireless tracking has been elusive. A number of systems have promised wireless, but there’s always been a catch. Polhemus’ Latus system actually delivers high-quality, high-speed, lagless tracking that is genuinely wireless,” said Greg McAuliffe, president of LaserAid.  “For those of us who have been watching the technology through the years, this comes as a real breakthrough.  For those who haven’t, this is a step in the natural evolution of interface.  By combining the SpaceGrips with Digital Artforms’ THI, the interface dissolves away; you just do what you’re naturally wired for.”

Digital Artforms, Inc. was formed in 1998 to create new applications and markets based on the two-handed interface. They are working with the US Army CERDEC to create an immersive and collaborative system that appeals to all echelons of the military. Other Digital ArtForms products include immersive CAD, Landscape Design, Collaborative Medical Visualization, and the immersive application toolkit upon which all Digital Artforms products are based. Digital Artforms is based in Los Gatos, California.
